Ann Trenk is the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Mathematics at Wellesley College, where she teaches across the mathematics curriculum from calculus to advanced combinatorics and mentors undergraduate students in theoretical mathematics.
Education:
- B.A., Harvard University
- M.S., Johns Hopkins University
- Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University
Her research centers on graph theory and partially ordered sets (posets), with emphasis on structured graph families including interval graphs, perfect graphs, and tolerance graphs that enable efficient optimization solutions. She coauthored the foundational book Tolerance Graphs and pioneered work on weak/linear discrepancy in posets and distinguishing chromatic numbers, bridging abstract algebra with practical modeling applications.
Dr. Trenk actively serves the mathematical community through committees for the Association for Women in Mathematics, Mathematical Association of America, American Mathematical Society, and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, while also conducting professional development seminars for K-12 teachers via the Teachers as Scholars program.
