Ann Plum

Dr. Ann Plum serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, where she holds dual leadership roles as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate University Hospital and Director of Service for Pediatric Otolaryngology at Kings County Health Center. Since joining as full-time faculty in 2018, she has established herself as one of three fellowship-trained Pediatric Otolaryngologists at the institution while maintaining clinical consultancies at Maimonides Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist.

Her academic foundation includes undergraduate studies at Smith College, medical training at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine (MD, 2011), followed by Otolaryngology internship and residency at Upstate Medical University, and specialized Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Plum's clinical and research portfolio centers on complex pediatric ENT conditions, with particular emphasis on airway/swallowing disorders and aerodigestive pathologies. She pioneered SUNY Downstate's multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Clinic through collaborations with Pediatric Gastroenterology and Pulmonology, addressing intricate cases requiring integrated care approaches. Her scholarly work extends to medical education innovation, notably through simulation-based training methodologies for otolaryngology residents.

As an active educator, she mentors residents through weekly clinics at SUNY Downstate and supervises trainees at affiliated hospitals, while her clinical practice covers the full spectrum of pediatric ENT conditions from congenital malformations to chronic sinusitis and hearing disorders. Her leadership in the Aerodigestive Clinic exemplifies her commitment to developing specialized care pathways for medically complex pediatric patients.
