Dr. Ann-Marie Houghton is a lecturer at the School of Social Sciences, Lancaster University, where she serves as the Director of REAP (Researching Equity Access and Participation). Her work integrates teaching, research, and institutional leadership in inclusive education, widening participation, and disability studies. She is affiliated with the university's Equality and Diversity Committee, Widening Participation Co-ordinating Group, and Cartmel College, and previously served on the Faculty of Arts and Social Science Courses Committee (2004–2014).
Her educational credentials include completing Lancaster's Certificate in Academic Practice (2006) and being nominated for the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (2010). Her research focuses on inclusive teaching practices, disability and transition to higher education, educational equity, and family learning dynamics. She supervises PhD students such as Luke Halpin, Mohammed Islam, and Daixuan Xie, and her recent publication (2025) explores accessible design in digital environments for students with ADHD.
She contributes to international partnerships like the Lancaster University Ghana and Sunway collaborations, and has chaired quality reviews and validation panels for institutions like Blackburn College. Her work spans policy evaluation, curriculum development, and multi-agency approaches to supporting disabled learners.
