Dr. Ann Marie Bright is an Associate Professor in Nursing (Mental Health) at the University of Limerick, affiliated with the School of Nursing & Midwifery and the Health Research Institute. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing from Institute of Technology, Tralee (First Class), an MSc in Perinatal Mental Health (2019), and a PhD (2024) focusing on prison mental health services through institutional ethnography. Her research emphasizes qualitative methodologies, particularly in women’s mental health, perinatal mental health, and nurse education.
Her expertise spans clinical practice in acute care, rehabilitation, and community-based interventions. Teaching focuses on mental health, nursing practice, and research, supported by a Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Learning & Scholarship (2023). She leads the Mental Health Special Interest Group in the Irish Paramedicine Education and Research Network (IPERN) and chairs her school’s mental health research cluster.
Research interests include prison mental health, perinatal mental health, and nurse education. Notable contributions include studies on digital/e-health interventions for prisoners, psychosocial interventions for eating disorders, and paramedicine research strategies. Awards include recognition for her PhD elevator pitch (2022) and participation in thesis competitions (2023).
