Ann Blythe is a Visiting Associate Professor of Geology at Occidental College. She holds a B.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on tectonics, neotectonics, and geomorphology, utilizing low-temperature thermochronology (fission-track and (U-Th)/He analyses). Current projects include the Transantarctic Mountains (collaborating with Audrey Huerta) and studies in the Himalayas, Andes, and California. She teaches courses such as Introductory Geology, Geomorphology, and Field Methods.
Her NSF-funded research examines tectonic and climatic influences on mountain-building processes. Recent work explores exhumation histories in the Sierra Nevada, Tehachapi Mountains, and Himalayan regions. Blythe has co-authored over 50 publications, with a focus on thermochronometric methods and their application to tectonic problems.
Award-winning educator, she advises students on thermochronology projects and collaborates internationally. Labs and fieldwork form core components of her research, emphasizing hands-on learning and global geological investigations.
