Research Assistant Professor Suoya Fan investigates tectonic processes at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Geology and Environmental Science. Her interdisciplinary research integrates structural geology, thermochronology, and geomorphology to understand mountain building and landscape evolution.

- 3D structural modeling of convergent margins
- Tectonic-climate interactions
- Active fault systems in Alaska and Himalayas
- Thermochronologic constraints on exhumation
Field-based studies in Alaska, Himalayas, and Tibet examine crustal deformation patterns using structural mapping, geochronology, and numerical modeling approaches. Current NSF-funded projects analyze subduction zone splay faulting and drainage evolution in orogenic systems.
