Ann Bainbridge Frymier is a Professor and Director in the School of Communication Studies at Ohio University, part of the Scripps College of Communication. She previously held administrative roles at Miami University, including Associate Dean of the Graduate School, and served as President of the Eastern Communication Association. Her research focuses on instructional communication, examining how instructors' behaviors—such as humor, nonverbal immediacy, and clarity—affect student engagement, motivation, and learning. She has been widely cited for work on teacher-student relationships and student empowerment.
Dr. Frymier holds an Ed.D. and has authored a textbook on persuasion, numerous book chapters, and over 30 journal articles in Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, and the Journal of Applied Communication. She serves on editorial boards for multiple communication journals, including Communication Education and Communication Pedagogy.
