Graneß's research program investigates decolonial methodologies in philosophical historiography, focusing on African intellectual traditions from ancient Egypt to contemporary diasporic thought. She challenges exclusionary practices in academic publishing and advocates for linguistic diversity in philosophical discourse, particularly regarding European colonial languages' limitations in capturing African episteme.
Her 2023 monograph Philosophy in Africa: Challenges of a Global History of Philosophy presents systematic frameworks for global philosophical historiography. Earlier collaborative works established comparative platforms for feminist theories across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Current projects examine epistemic injustice in knowledge production and Ubuntu concepts' contributions to justice debates.
- 2023: Philosophy in Africa (Suhrkamp)
- 2019: Feminist Theory from Asia, Africa, and Latin America (facultas wuv)
- 2015: The Concept of Global Justice in Henry Odera Oruka (Campus Verlag)
Graneß has contributed extensively to debates on epistemic marginalization in academic institutions, highlighting financial disparities, publication access barriers, and linguistic hegemony in knowledge systems. Her methodological innovations address inclusion of oral philosophical traditions while challenging historical perceptions of African societies as "a-historical" and "primitive".
