Dr. Anke Fuchs is Junior Group Leader for 'Advanced Cellular Therapeutics' at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) of Technische Universität Dresden, leading research on novel cell-based therapeutics for complications following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Education:
- 2008-2012: Doctorate (PhD) within the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB)
- 2001-2008: Technical Biology Studies at University of Stuttgart
- 2005-2006: Undergraduate Thesis at Auckland Cancer Society Research Center, New Zealand
Dr. Fuchs' research focuses on addressing graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) complications after stem cell transplantation. Her group has established a novel smart Treg manufacturing protocol using an automated closed system to produce regulatory T cells that alleviate chronic GvHD. Current projects include a phase II clinical trial for Treg cells in early chronic GvHD, development of organ-targeted Tregs, and automated GMP production of antigen-specific T cells for viral infections in immunocompromised patients, with deep immunomonitoring using CyTOF, T cell receptor sequencing, and single cell RNA sequencing.
Scientific Awards:
- Young Investigator Award of the International Society of Cellular Therapy (ISCT), 2017
- Fellow of the Maria-Reiche Mentoring Programme for female scientists, TU Dresden, 2017/2018
- Best dissertation award, Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden, 2012
- Stipend from the Landesstiftung foundation of Baden-Württemberg for research at University of Auckland, 2005/2006
Dr. Fuchs serves as lecturer in the CMCB Master's Program in Regenerative Biology and Medicine teaching 'Clinical Translation and GMP,' and mentors PhD students through the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB). Her research is funded by multiple European and German institutions supporting cellular therapeutics development for post-transplant complications. She works in close collaboration with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility of CRTD, leading a research team including postdocs, predocs, and technical staff focused on advancing cellular therapy manufacturing and clinical translation.
