Anke Finger is a Professor of German Studies, Media Studies, and Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Connecticut. She holds directorial roles in the Graduate Program in German Studies, the DHMS Graduate Certificate (Digital Humanities and Media Studies), and co-directs EUROBIZ and EUROTECH. She has a courtesy joint appointment in the Department of Digital Media and Design and is affiliated with the Maritime Studies Program and Department of Philosophy. Her research focuses on German and comparative modernism, media studies, digital humanities, intercultural communication, and blue humanities.
Education: PhD in Comparative Literature from Brandeis University.
Her research interests include the total artwork concept in modernism, Vilém Flusser’s philosophy, and interdisciplinary projects like the Flusser Studies journal. Recent work explores environmental media and the intersection of media studies with social justice. She co-edited Women in German Expressionism: Gender, Sexuality, Activism (2023) and led the 'Radical Futures' symposium (2021). Current projects include the Mellon-funded Center for Humanities Communication and the 'Germany on Campus' symposium (2024).
Grants include a Mellon Foundation grant for the Center for Humanities Communication (2025) and a German Embassy Collaborative Award for a company expo in 2024. She edits the Media Dynamics/Mediendynamiken book series and contributes to the perspektive literary magazine. Ongoing initiatives include the AI Odyssey group and the autoethnographic project Red Baltic: A Cold War Report.
