Anke Edelbrock

Dr. Anke Edelbrock serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Evangelical Theology and Religious Education at the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd, holding the civil service rank of Akademische Oberrätin. She has also acted as a substitute professor for Evangelical Theology/Religious Education at PH Ludwigsburg during the winter semester 2019/2020.

Her academic journey began with studies in Evangelical Theology at the Universities of Münster and Tübingen, followed by a vicariate and ordination in Tübingen-Unterjesingen. She gained practical teaching experience in primary, secondary, and real schools before transitioning to higher education.

Dr. Edelbrock's research centers on religious education in diverse contexts, with a special focus on early childhood and primary school settings. Her work explores interreligious and intercultural education, religious sensitivity, gender issues in religious pedagogy, and the religious development of children. She investigates how children perceive religious differences and how educational environments can foster democratic values and inclusive religious practices.

Her recent publications (2015-2024) reveal a sustained commitment to understanding religious education in pluralistic societies, particularly in daycare centers and primary schools. Key themes include the role of parents in religious education, the development of religious sensitivity in children, and practical approaches for educators working in interreligious settings.

Dr. Edelbrock has been actively involved in third-party funded research, notably the Tübingen project 'Interkulturelle und interreligiöse Bildung in Kindertagesstätten' (Intercultural and Interreligious Education in Daycare Centers), which produced significant empirical findings and practical guidelines. She has also contributed to academic discourse through participation in conferences such as the German Protestant Church Congress.
