Anjali Korala is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Colombo's Department of Political Science and Public Policy, while pursuing a PhD at the Institute of Geography, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz since March 2021. She holds a BA (2015) and MPhil (2019) in Political Science and Public Policy from the University of Colombo.
Her research focuses on urban governance dynamics, with a critical examination of vertical slums, pandemic-era governance practices, and the socio-political impacts of forced displacement in Colombo. Her doctoral project analyzes how high-rise housing structures enable state surveillance and control during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns, employing Foucault's panopticism theory.
Key research areas include built environment governance, pandemic management, and the interplay between development projects and marginalized communities. Publications address governance practices in post-displacement contexts and urban regeneration challenges.
