Dr. Anja Staiger is an associated researcher at the Institute for Phonetics and Speech Processing (IPS), Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, within the Clinical Neuropsychology Research Group (EKN). Her research focuses on neurogenic speech and language disorders, specifically dysarthria, apraxia of speech, and motor speech disorders in primary progressive aphasia (PPA). She holds a PhD in Phonetics (2009, LMU Munich), a Master’s in Psycholinguistics, Phonetics, and Neuropsychology (2005, LMU Munich), and is a certified speech-language pathologist (2000, Philipps University Marburg).
Her work includes developing diagnostic tools like the Bogenhausen Dysarthria Scales (BoDyS) and investigating clinical presentations and neuroanatomical correlates of PPA. She has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books on speech motor disorders, including contributions to Brain Sciences, Cortex, and Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.
Current projects explore motor speech disorders in PPA, emphasizing clinical and neuroimaging correlates. She collaborates with institutions like the German FTLD Consortium and City Hospital München-Bogenhausen, addressing interdisciplinary challenges in speech pathology and neurological rehabilitation.
