Prof. Dr. Anja Osei is a leading scholar in African politics at the Otto Suhr Institute for Political Science, Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on democratization, electoral authoritarianism, and political elites, with a regional emphasis on Ghana, Togo, and Sub-Saharan Africa. She leads the EU-funded DLEDA project (ERC Starting Grant) and serves on the advisory board of the Horizon Europe-funded ERA-AREAS project.
- Current Role: Professor at Freie Universität Berlin (since 2022), formerly Senior Researcher at University of Konstanz (2018–2024)
- Education: PhD in African Studies (University of Leipzig, 2010)
Research Interests center on political elites, social network analysis, and party branding in Africa. Her work examines legislative institutions, regime survival strategies, and informal governance structures.
Recent Publications analyze elite cohesion in Cameroon/Gabon, parliamentary role orientations in Botswana, and local governance in Ghana. These span comparative analyses of democratization challenges and institutional trust-building.
