Prof. Dr. Anja Kipar serves as Professor at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology (IVPZ) within the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich, with additional affiliations at the University of Liverpool (Department of Infection Biology and Microbiomes), University of Helsinki (Department of Veterinary Biosciences), and City University of Hong Kong (Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences).
Her research centers on immunopathology and the pathogenesis of infectious and drug-induced diseases, investigating natural animal conditions like feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) and boid inclusion body disease (BIBD), alongside animal models of human diseases including murine gammaherpesvirus immunopathogenesis and drug-induced liver injury. She established the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Laboratory for Animal Model Pathology (LAMP) to advance morphological studies in laboratory rodents.
Key honors include:
- Docent in Veterinary Pathology (University of Helsinki, 2005)
- Forschungsförderpreis award (Bayer AG and Friends' Association of Veterinary Medicine at Justus Liebig University Giessen, 2002)
- Privatdozentin title (University of Giessen, 2002)
She has supervised theses on viral infection models, drug-induced liver injury, and equine tumors. As director of LAMP, she provides comprehensive technical support including histology, immunohistochemistry, digital slide scanning, laser microdissection, and electron microscopy, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration from experimental design through interpretation to optimize 3Rs compliance in animal research.
