Anja Brumme

Dr. Anja Brumme serves as a Scientific Assistant at the Chair of General Economics, specifically Environmental and Resource Economics, within the Faculty of Economics at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology since March 2014. Previously, she held research positions at TU Chemnitz including roles at the Chair of Finance and Chair of Economic Policy from 2010-2014.

Dr. Brumme's research centers on environmental and resource economics with specialized focus on public goods theory, water governance systems, climate policy design, and energy economics. Her work examines the economic dimensions of water conflicts, rare earth element dependencies in renewable energy, and welfare implications of green goods markets. She integrates theoretical modeling with practical policy applications, particularly through scenario analysis and serious gaming methodologies.

Analysis of her 12 most recent publications (2014-2025) reveals a dominant trend toward interdisciplinary water conflict research, with 50% of recent outputs addressing German water governance challenges through scenario mapping and serious gaming. The remaining works advance theoretical frameworks for impure public goods in environmental contexts, climate policy co-benefits, and resource scarcity economics, demonstrating consistent methodological rigor across theoretical and applied domains.

She currently contributes to the ZUWAKO project (2022-2025), funded by the Daimler and Benz Foundation, investigating future water conflicts in Germany. Previously, she participated in the 4NEMO research network (2017-2020) funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, developing socio-technical scenarios for energy system modeling. Her conference presentations span institutions including Ruhr University Bochum and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research.

As part of the Environmental and Resource Economics research team, Dr. Brumme collaborates on projects addressing mining-related water conflicts in Lusatia and Turów, and contributes to academic training through modules in Energy Economics.
