Anja Brinkmann is a Professor of English Linguistics at the University of Potsdam’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge (2008) and previously taught at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on cognitive linguistics, lexicography, and corpus-driven approaches to language structure. She leads the 'Cognitive Lexicography Lab' and has collaborated with institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.

Her research explores metaphor in cognitive processes, semantic change in historical corpora, and multimodal meaning construction. She has secured major grants, including a DAAD International Research Collaboration Grant (2019).

Anja Brinkmann advises three PhD students and has supervised numerous master’s projects. She leads the EU-funded 'LexNet' project on cross-linguistic lexical networks and co-edits the journal Cognitive Linguistics Perspectives. Her lab currently investigates embodied cognition in lexical semantics using EEG and eye-tracking technologies.
