Anitha Thillaisundaram is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Sciences at Lund University, Sweden. Her research focuses on advanced algebraic structures and group theory, with significant contributions to the study of profinite groups, branch groups, and maximal subgroups.
Her primary research interests include Group Theory, Profinite Groups, Algebra, Geometric Group Theory, Branch Groups, Automorphism Groups, and Maximal Subgroups. She investigates the structural properties of groups acting on rooted trees, invariable generation of branch groups, and Hausdorff spectra of profinite groups, often addressing open problems in these domains.
Analysis of her recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a concentrated focus on maximal subgroups, Burnside groups, and Beauville structures within generalized GGS-groups. Her work frequently intersects with geometric group theory and algebraic topology, particularly through the lens of iterated monodromy groups and profinite completions.
Anitha leads multiple active research projects funded by prestigious Swedish institutions including The Royal Physiographic Society in Lund and the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. These projects cover topics such as strongly real Beauville structures in Grigorchuk-Gupta-Sidki groups, maximal subgroups of branch groups, Hausdorff spectra, and centralisers in profinite groups.
