She currently serves as a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Latvia since April 20, 2021, having previously held significant leadership positions including Dean of the Faculty of Law (July 1, 2015 - April 18, 2021) and Member of the University of Latvia Senate (April 21, 2016 - April 1, 2021). Her academic work is centered within the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law.
Professor Rodina's research primarily focuses on constitutional law, human rights protection, and Constitutional Court processes. Her scholarly work demonstrates deep engagement with fundamental rights interpretation, constitutional dialogue between institutions, and the evolving role of constitutional courts in democratic societies. She has extensively examined Latvia's constitutional development, particularly the 25-year evolution of fundamental rights provisions in the Latvian Constitution, and has addressed contemporary challenges including pandemic-related human rights protections and LGBTQ+ rights in the Baltic context.
Analysis of her publication record reveals consistent scholarly contributions in constitutional interpretation methodology, with particular emphasis on case-based reasoning, judicial precedent in constitutional adjudication, and the interaction between constitutional courts and other state institutions. Her research increasingly addresses contemporary legal challenges including sustainability principles in constitutional law, the impact of EU law on national constitutional systems, and the protection of vulnerable groups under constitutional frameworks.
Throughout her career, Rodina has maintained active engagement with both theoretical and practical dimensions of constitutional law, having served as a sworn attorney (2007-2021) while pursuing academic excellence. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical constitutional governance, particularly evident in her examination of parliamentary election legality, constitutional court procedures, and the appointment processes for constitutional judges.
