Anita Foerster

Anita Foerster is a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on environmental governance, climate change adaptation, and the role of law in resource allocation and biodiversity conservation. She holds a PhD from Melbourne Law School (2010) under Professors Lee Godden and Jacqueline Peel, examining environmental water allocation in Australia.

Previously, she worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania (2011–2015), exploring legal frameworks for climate adaptation (e.g., coastal hazards, bushfire) and biodiversity offsets. Since 2016, she has led an ARC Discovery Project with Professor Peel, investigating corporate and securities law mechanisms to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy practices.

She is affiliated with the Melbourne Centre for Law and the Environment. Her work bridges legal scholarship with practical policy, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges.
