Anita Bright is a Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at Portland State University's College of Education. With over 20 years of K-12 public school experience as a National Board Certified Teacher, she serves as ESOL program coordinator, CAEP/TESOL international program coordinator, and doctoral program cohort leader.
Her research critically examines systemic oppression through these key areas:
- Racism, sexism, and cultural reproduction in curricular materials
- Impact of marginalization on students, families, and school climate
- Law enforcement intersections with public education
- Preservice teachers' social justice conceptualization and discourse patterns
Dr. Bright teaches ESOL, social justice, and mathematics education courses while mentoring doctoral students. Her work bridges critical theory with practical teacher preparation, advocating for equity through program coordination and cohort leadership in educational settings.
