Anita Alkhas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Studies (French Program) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). She holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University (1999). Her research focuses on 19th-20th century French literature, Francophone culture, and innovative language pedagogy integrating technology. She has contributed to seminal works like My Next Language (2017) and co-edited the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages (2015). Alkhas actively promotes language education through roles such as Professional Development Chair at the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers (WAFLT) and co-organizer of the Southeast Wisconsin Academic Alliance in French (SWAAF).
Her interdisciplinary work extends into film, including subtitling and co-producing award-winning documentaries like Thicker than Paint (2013 Special Cream City Cinema Jury Prize) and Tales (2014 Venice Film Festival Best Screenplay). She explores intersections of philosophy and art in publications like Journal of Philosophy: A Cross-Disciplinary Inquiry (2010).
Alkhas serves on multiple boards, including the Alliance Française de Milwaukee and UWM’s International Dessert Competition organizing committee. Her teaching emphasizes technology integration, as seen in her High Tech/Low Tech column (2014–2015).
