Anica Schmauch is a PhD student at Christian-Albrechts University, working in Prof. Dr. Eva Stukenbrock's "Environmental Genomics" lab as part of the DFG Research Unit 5640 "PlantsCoChallenge". Her research focuses on plant adaptations to concurrent abiotic and biotic stresses.
Her educational background includes:
- M.Sc. in Biology from Christian-Albrechts University Kiel (2020-2024)
- B.Sc. in Biology from Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (2016-2020)
Her research interests center on plant stress responses, particularly the molecular mechanisms of stress signaling and ecological adaptations. During her Master's thesis, she investigated low oxygen stress in Arabidopsis thaliana, focusing on ROS homeostasis regulation by the ERF VII transcription factor HRE2. Currently, her PhD research examines the effects of biotic stress from Zymoseptoria passerinii and temperature stress on microbial interactions and disease resistance in barley accessions.
Anica is supported by the DFG Research Unit 5640 "PlantsCoChallenge", which aims to study plant adaptations to combined stresses from physiological and evolutionary perspectives. She is part of the research team led by Prof. Eva Stukenbrock, contributing to the understanding of plant-microbe interactions under stress conditions.
