Angus McLeod is a Professor at Amherst College teaching interdisciplinary education studies and American studies courses. He holds a Ph.D. in joint education and history from the University of Pennsylvania (2024), an M.A. in history from the same institution (2021), and a B.A. in Plan II, history and international relations from the University of Texas at Austin (2013). His research examines how historical policy decisions shape contemporary educational inequalities.
Professor McLeod's scholarship focuses on the intersection of education policy, political history, and social justice. His award-winning book project Unequal by Design analyzes school finance systems and structural inequities in Texas from 1845-2016. His second project Teaching Economics the Right Way investigates conservative efforts to promote free-market economics curricula in public schools. Core research themes include: racial disparities in education funding, the political economy of school finance, and historical roots of educational injustice.
McLeod's recent publications examine historical education policy turning points and influential educational thinkers. His 2023 works analyze Texas school finance litigation leading to the Rodriguez case and economist Raj Chetty's contributions to understanding education's role in economic mobility.

He maintains an active advising practice through scheduled office hours and will teach EDST-470 (Advanced Writing/Research in Education Studies) and co-teach EDST/AMST-258 (Museums and Education) in fall 2025. His teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking skills development and student empowerment through historical analysis.
