Angelo Marcio de Souza Gomes

Angelo Marcio de Souza Gomes is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Physics, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He is a core member of the Low Temperature Laboratory (LBT), contributing to research in condensed matter physics, magnetism, superconductivity, and nanomaterials. His work extends to magnetic refrigeration technology and the magnetocaloric effect, with a focus on energy-efficient cooling systems. Additionally, he has spearheaded educational initiatives like the LABVAD virtual laboratory project.

• Education: PhD in Physics from UFRJ.

Research Interests encompass experimental investigations into low-temperature physical properties, magnetic materials, and superconductivity. He collaborates internationally, as seen in projects with institutions like CNEA-Argentina, and oversees advanced cryogenic infrastructure, including a Janis 7T superconducting magnet cryostat.

Scientific Awards include a CNPq Productivity and Research Grant (recognized for scientific output) and a FAPERJ research grant for his educational project LABVAD, involving partnerships with Ferreira Viana Technical School and UFRJ’s Electronic Computing Center.

Laboratory Contributions: As part of LBT since its early development, he has been instrumental in enhancing cryogenic liquid production and low-temperature measurement techniques. The lab produces over 1,000 liters of liquid helium monthly and supports cutting-edge research through equipment like PPMS-9T systems and dilution refrigerators.
