Queen Mary University of Londonمعرفی
Dr. Angelika Stollewerk is an Emeritus Reader in Evolutionary Developmental Biology at Queen Mary University of London's School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding the evolution and development of nervous systems in arthropods, including insects, crustaceans, spiders, and myriapods. She investigates genetic mechanisms underlying neurogenesis, sensory organ formation, and developmental patterning in diverse arthropod species. Her work bridges evolutionary and developmental biology, contributing to the understanding of conserved and divergent pathways across species.
Dr. Stollewerk has supervised PhD student Magdalena Schacht and has been involved in collaborative grants, such as a BBSRC-funded project for confocal microscopy studies. She is affiliated with the Centre for Evolutionary and Functional Genomics, Centre for Biodiversity and Sustainability, and Centre for Brain and Behaviour at Queen Mary. Her research has been published in high-impact journals like Developmental Biology, BMC Biology, and Nature, with a focus on topics such as Notch signaling, neural gene expression, and comparative neuroanatomy.
Her work highlights the evolutionary modifications in neurodevelopmental processes and emphasizes the importance of model organisms like Daphnia magna and spiders for understanding broader biological principles.
