She holds a PhD in Exercise Biology and Physiology and is actively engaged in research, teaching at the Faculty of Medicine, and clinical muscle biopsy analysis.
Education:
- BSc in Sport Science, Université de Nantes, 2013
- MSc in Sport Science, Université de Nantes, 2015
- PhD in Exercise Biology and Physiology, Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne & Université Catholique de Louvain, 2018
- Graduate Degree: Research Career, 2020

Her research focuses on the benefits of adapted physical activity in chronic neuromuscular and hematological conditions, particularly sickle cell disease, multiple sclerosis, and facio-scapulo-humeral dystrophy (FSHD). With experience in neurophysiology and spinal cord research, her work integrates clinical and physiological approaches to improve patient outcomes through exercise interventions.
Angele Merlet has conducted research internships at the Motricity Interactions Performance laboratory, completed her thesis at LIBM and the Institute of Neurosciences in Belgium, and held a postdoctoral position at the Neurokinesiology Laboratory at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada. Her multidisciplinary background bridges sport science, clinical myology, and neuroscience.
She teaches at the Faculty of Medicine in Saint-Étienne and contributes to academic training while advancing her research in muscle physiology and disease-specific rehabilitation protocols.
She is affiliated with key research teams including ActiFS and LIBM, focusing on fatigue, performance, and health. Her work supports the development of evidence-based physical activity programs for patients with chronic conditions.
