Angela Sanmann is an Associate Professor in the German Department at the University of Lausanne, appointed to this role on 1 August 2021. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor of Translation Studies in the same department since 1 August 2015. She holds a PhD (co-supervised in Berlin and Nantes) titled Poetische Interaktion. Französisch-deutsche Lyrikübersetzung bei Friedhelm Kemp, Paul Celan, Ludwig Harig, Volker Braun, awarded in 2012.
Before her academic appointment, Sanmann worked at the Book Office of the French Embassy in Berlin and at the CH Beck publishing house in Munich. She is an active literary translator, particularly from French to German. Notable translations include Larry Tremblay's Der Name meines Bruders (2015), Emmanuèle Bernheim's Alles ist gutgegangen (2014), and Aurélie Filippetti's Die letzten Tage der Arbeiterklasse (2014).
Her research focuses on translation studies, with emphasis on poetic translation dynamics, European cultural exchange, and the historical role of women in translation. She combines academic work with practical translation and literary analysis.
