Dr. Angela Dickinson is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire within the School of Health and Social Work, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC). Her research focuses on older people's health, food security, and public health, employing qualitative methods such as interviews, focus groups, and visual ethnography. She co-leads the Advanced Qualitative Methods module in the Doctoral Health Research program and supervises multiple doctoral students.
Education: PhD (Brunel University, 1999) in food choices among older people; MMedSci in Human Nutrition (University of Sheffield, 2002); RGN Nursing (Sheffield School of Nursing, 1986); BSc(Hons) in Applied Zoology (University College North Wales, Bangor, 1984).
Research Interests: Food practices in later life, vulnerability in aging populations, participatory research methods, and creative impact strategies. Notable projects include the ESRC-funded Food in Later Life initiative, which produced an educational game and film addressing food security challenges for older adults.
Impact: Developed an educational game and short film to engage non-academic audiences. Her team’s exhibition 25: Lives seen through food reached over 1,000 people. She collaborates on projects like Hospital@home (2024–2025) and FOOD4YEARS (2023–2024), addressing health and social care gaps and nutritional information accessibility.
Awards: Contributed to the School’s Silver Athena SWAN award for gender equity initiatives.
