Dr. Angela Cook is a Lecturer at the School of Languages and Cultures, University of Queensland, where she convenes the Chinese Translation and Interpreting major. With a PhD in Chinese Linguistics from Griffith University and multiple translating qualifications, her research focuses on contact-induced morpho-syntactic language change and grammatical markers in Modern Standard Chinese.

Her work examines lexical borrowing, plural marker men, and passive construction bei through corpus analysis and fieldwork from her extensive experience in mainland China and Taiwan. Current projects explore changes in grammatical structures across spoken interactions and written translations.
While publications span journal articles, book chapters, and creative translation outputs, key themes include translation pedagogy, digital learning adaptation, and Mandarin grammatical evolution. She actively supervises PhD students in translation technology, intertextual features, and mobile language learning.
Outside academia, she is a bassoonist in Brisbane Symphony Orchestra.
