Dr. Angela Acosta is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of South Carolina's Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures, within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, specializing in Iberian Literary and Cultural Studies. Her research focuses on 20th-century Spanish women writers, feminist modernism, and the intersection of gender, avant-garde literature, and cultural preservation. She co-edited a 2024 Special Issue of Feminist Modernist Studies on Spanish Sapphic Modernity.

Research Interests: Dr. Acosta’s work explores avant-garde modernism, queer feminist collaborations, and the material conditions of literary production. She examines the canon formation of Spain’s Generation of 1927 and its female counterparts ('las Sinsombrero'), emphasizing transatlantic networks and multimedia collaborations. Her creative work includes bilingual speculative poetry and flash fiction, often inspired by Spanish literary figures.

Creative Works: Author of poetry collections Summoning Space Travelers (2022) and A Belief in Cosmic Dailiness (2023), her speculative poetry has been published in venues like Eye to the Telescope and Radon Journal. She is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA).
