Angel Negrete Velasco is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Research Fellow) in the Environmental Physicochemistry group of the Department F.-A. Forel for Environmental and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Geneva, currently collaborating with the Water Service of the City of Lausanne.
He earned a Civil Engineering degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Geneva, where his doctoral thesis characterized microplastics in Geneva's urban water cycle.
His research specializes in monitoring aquatic pollutants through microplastic isolation, microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy, with concentrated focus on detection and quantification in drinking water treatment systems and distribution networks. Current work extends this analysis to Lausanne's water infrastructure via the collaborative project.
As an active member of the Environmental Physicochemistry group, he advances methodologies for assessing microplastic contamination in critical water resources.
