Anett Kristin Larsen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Her research focuses on liver physiology, infection biology, and host-microbe interactions, particularly the role of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells in pathogen elimination. She teaches pharmacology and veterinary microbiology to biomedical, dental, medical, and pharmacy students.
Her academic journey includes postdoctoral research at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and UiT’s Arctic Infection Biology group. Key research projects include SECVIR, investigating virus elimination by liver endothelial cells, and studies on Brucella infections in marine mammals and fish immune responses to environmental stressors.
Publications highlight liver scavenger cell functions, viral infection mechanisms, and the impact of pesticides on aquatic organisms. Her work bridges veterinary, medical, and environmental sciences, with a focus on Arctic wildlife and One Health perspectives. Supervision of students spans bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels in infection biology and biomedical fields.
Lab affiliations include the Vascular Biology research group and collaborations on projects like SECVIR. She actively engages in science communication, including educational tools like the interactive 'Smittedetektiven' for public outreach.
