Peter Anthony Gerard McCourt

Peter Anthony Gerard McCourt is a Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Medical Biology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His research focuses on liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (LSEC) biology, super-resolution microscopy, and age-related changes in liver function. He currently supervises PhD and MSc students in biomedical sciences and teaches biochemistry to medical laboratory scientists and dental nurses.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Uppsala University, Sweden (1999)

Research Interests: Dr. McCourt studies LSEC fenestrations using advanced microscopy techniques (SIM, dSTORM), investigates the role of scavenger receptors in waste clearance, and explores nanotherapeutic applications for aging-related diseases. His work also examines bone marrow sinusoidal endothelial cells (BMSEC) in transplant studies and the impact of aging on LSEC morphology in collaboration with institutions in Australia and Europe.

Publications Trends: Recent articles highlight breakthroughs in nanotherapeutics (e.g., insulin delivery via nanoparticles), super-resolution imaging innovations, and discoveries about LSEC roles in phage clearance and xanthine toxicity. His work bridges cell biology, optics, and clinical applications.
