Ane Katrine Bislev

Ane Katrine Bislev is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Society at Aalborg University, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She currently serves as Acting Head of Department and is a key member of the REGIS (Regional and International Studies) and MIX (Center for Displacement, Migration and Integration) research groups.

Her research centers on contemporary Chinese politics, with a focus on digital governance, labor markets, soft power, and cross-strait relations. She explores how digital platforms mediate domestic labor in China, how nationalist discourse shapes perceptions of Taiwan, and how China leverages economic and cultural tools in its foreign relations, particularly in the Arctic and Europe.

The analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent thematic focus on governance, categorization, and digital transformation in China. Her work spans political science, sociology, and international relations, often adopting interdisciplinary and discourse-analytic approaches. She investigates how state and societal actors interact in digital spaces, how identities are constructed, and how global dynamics are refracted through local contexts.

Bislev has received research funding from the Independent Research Fund Denmark for projects such as CatCh: Ruling through Division and MDMP: Moving Data-Moving People, which examine categorization and social credit systems in China. She actively participates in academic networks and has organized international workshops on trust, governance, and China studies.

She advises on educational innovation, particularly through problem-based learning and internships, and has contributed to curriculum development in international studies. Her engagement extends to public discourse through frequent media appearances on Sino-global affairs.
