معرفی
Dr. Andy Van Hateren is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, collaborating with Prof. Edd James (University of Southampton) and Prof. Tim Elliott (University of Oxford). His research focuses on Major Histocompatibility Complex class I (MHC I) peptide selection mechanisms and the roles of tapasin and TAPBPR in antigen presentation. He leads a lab section in the Life Sciences building, supervising a research assistant and students, and contributes to teaching immunology modules and mentoring.
Research Interests: Immunology, Cancer Biology, MHC I Peptide Selection, Antigen Presentation, Protein Structure, and Protein Dynamics.
Teaching & Supervision
- Module Lead: Research Dissertation (Cancer Biology and Immunology MSc)
- Lecturer: Immunology (Medi6226 Human Biology and Systems course)
- Tutorial Facilitator: Undergraduate Foundations of Medicine
- Supervisor: Undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, summer interns, and a co-supervised PhD student
Research Contributions
His work elucidates how MHC I molecules select peptides for presentation to cytotoxic T cells, emphasizing tapasin and TAPBPR’s roles in peptide editing. Recent studies include mechanisms of immunopeptidome focusing and clinical trial optimization via mechanistic simulation.
Awards
- Postdoctoral Association Research Prize (2014)
Labs & Teams
Conducts research in the Life Sciences building lab, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in immunology and cancer biology.
