Andy Simoneau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. His research focuses on analytical modeling of metal cutting processes, microstructural effects during plastic deformation, and energy efficiency in manufacturing systems. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and is based in the Fredericton campus.
Dr. Simoneau's research interests include:
- Finite Element modeling of material processing
- High strain rate material behavior analysis
- Integration of advanced sensors into manufacturing systems
- Energy management in CNC machining
- Analysis of heterogeneous materials (metals/composites)
His publications span topics like microstructure effects in cutting processes, energy consumption modeling in CNC endmilling, and development of manufacturing monitoring systems. Recent work includes investigations into tool breakout phenomena and creep analysis of rotating steel disks.
He has maintained a consistent research trajectory since the 1990s, with notable contributions to manufacturing standardization through the development of neutral manufacturing languages for system interoperability.
