Ted Bennett

Ted Bennett serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with his office located in Engineering II, Room 2321.

Current investigations focus on thermal materials processing fundamentals, including laser texturing of substrates for computer disk drives, thermally driven capillary/microstructural surface engineering using pulsed lasers, optical fiber bonding systems for VCSELs, thermal transport in head-disk air bearings, thermal asperity phenomena in disk read-back signals, molecular-surface energy transport measurements, superthermal vaporization kinetics in pulsed-laser metal heating, and pyrometry applications for thermal barrier coating characterization.

Professor Bennett maintains active research in transport phenomena with direct applications to advanced manufacturing and thermal systems engineering.
