Professor Andy Lynch holds dual positions as Professor of Statistics in Bioscience within the Schools of Medicine and Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St Andrews. His research focuses on cancer genomics and antimicrobial resistance, particularly in East Africa. He leads projects on statistical methods for cancer sequencing data and interventions to combat antibiotic resistance. Key affiliations include the Institute of Engineering and the Sir James Mackenzie Institute for Early Diagnosis.
Research interests span cancer genomics, computational biology, and public health, with a focus on prostate, breast, and lung cancers. His work integrates statistical analysis with clinical and biological questions, addressing experimental design, data extraction, and clinical applications.
Recent articles highlight trends in antibiotic resistance patterns, prostate cancer genomics, and Bayesian network modeling for public health interventions. Awards include a Melville Trust studentship. Supervised students include Katie O'Neill and Xiaoyue Yang. Active grants involve MRC-funded studies on AMR in East Africa and CRUK projects on prostate cancer genomics. He collaborates with global teams, contributing to sustainable development goals related to health systems and innovation.
