Andy J. Danylchuk is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Conservation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on understanding the ecological and physiological responses of aquatic organisms to natural and anthropogenic disturbances, particularly in recreational angling contexts. He emphasizes sustainable practices, telemetry applications, and the conservation of fish populations. Danylchuk holds a B.Sc. from Trent University (1990), an M.Sc. from the University of Alberta (1993), and a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (2003).
Research interests include fish stress physiology, behavioral ecology, spatial ecology, and sustainable aquaculture. His work bridges academic inquiry with stakeholder engagement, aiming to balance recreational fishing with ecological preservation. He collaborates on projects involving telemetry to study fish behavior under stress and advocates for experiential learning opportunities for students.
Recent publications highlight catch-and-release practices, predator-prey interactions, and the impacts of emerging technologies like sonar in recreational fisheries. His studies often address conservation challenges in both marine and freshwater ecosystems, emphasizing habitat restoration and management strategies.
