Andy Hext

Andy Hext is a Researcher at the Centre for Sports Engineering Research (CSER) at Sheffield Hallam University, specializing in sports performance analysis with a focus on short-track speed skating. He holds a BSc in Sports Equipment Design (First Class Honours), an MSc in Sports Engineering (Distinction), and a PhD investigating relay exchange kinematics in short-track speed skating. His work supports the English Institute of Sport (EIS) and International Tennis Federation (ITF) through collaborative research projects. Key research areas include tactical positioning in skating, athlete performance optimization, and assistive technologies for stroke rehabilitation. He contributed to the British Short-Track team’s preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Current projects include Hawk-Eye data analysis and the EIS Research Partnership. CSER, under Dr. Simon Goodwill, integrates applied computing, biomechanics, design engineering, and skill acquisition to enhance athletic performance and promote physical activity.
