Dr. Andy Haynes is a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia's School of Human Sciences. His research focuses on cardiovascular and exercise physiology, particularly early detection of cardiovascular disease, prevention strategies, and novel treatments for heart failure. He leads projects involving non-invasive imaging techniques like echocardiography and transcranial Doppler, and collaborates with institutions such as Fiona Stanley Hospital and the Perth Cardiovascular Institute. Haynes has secured ~$1 million in grants from NHMRC and the National Heart Foundation. His recent work explores developmental origins of adult heart disease and the Raine Cohort's cardiovascular health.
He coordinates the unit SSEH3301 (Exercise Prescription and Nutrition) and teaches Cardiac Rehabilitation to postgraduate students. Haynes is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Physiology and contributed to 26 peer-reviewed publications. His research highlights exercise-based therapies for chronic heart failure and mechanisms behind the 'exercise paradox.'
