Andy Hardy is a Senior Lecturer in Remote Sensing and GIS at Aberystwyth University. With a PhD in Geomatics (Newcastle) and MSc in Environmental Modelling, his work applies drone/satellite tech to public health challenges like malaria elimination in Zanzibar and Ethiopia. He co-leads the Earth Observation and Ecosystem Dynamics group.
Research Highlights: Secured $15.5M for projects including UK Space Agency-funded 'DETECT' (climate-resilient health systems) and NERC's 'FLOODMAL' (hydrological malaria modelling). Developed the TropWet algorithm for African wetland mapping.
Community Impact: Collaborates with Zanzibar Ministry of Health on drone-based larviciding systems, reducing malaria incidence by 78% in trial districts.
