Andrés Garcia serves as Associate Professor (Docent) in Practical Philosophy at Lund University's Department of Philosophy, part of The Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. His academic journey includes a 2018 PhD in value theory supervised by Professors Toni Rønnow-Rasmussen and Wlodek Rabinowicz, followed by a postdoctoral position (2019-2024) funded by the Swedish Research Council, which included research collaboration at Humboldt University in Berlin with Professor Thomas Schmidt's ethics group.
Garcia's research centers on metaethics and value theory, with significant contributions to understanding neutral value, fitting attitudes, and circular definitions of 'good.' His broader philosophical interests extend to metaphilosophy (particularly metaontology), philosophy of language, and philosophy of mind. His recent publications (2024) demonstrate active engagement with contemporary ethical issues ranging from cultivated meat ethics to the philosophical analysis of death's badness.
His scholarly work appears in prominent philosophy journals including Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, The Southern Journal of Philosophy, and Journal of Value Inquiry. Garcia actively contributes to the philosophical community through conference presentations (including ECAP 11 and Rocky Mountain Ethics Conference) and peer review activities for journals such as Journal of Applied Philosophy, Philosophical Studies, and Philosophical Quarterly.
Garcia maintains extensive teaching responsibilities, primarily delivering courses in moral philosophy at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His academic trajectory reflects a strong commitment to both research excellence and pedagogical engagement within the philosophical discipline.
