André Sorensen is a Full Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on urban institutions, temporal processes in urbanization, urban governance, and property rights systems. He has received prestigious awards including the International Planning History Society Book Prize (2004) for his monograph The Making of Urban Japan and the AESOP Best Paper Award (2016) for his work on path dependence in planning.
His research themes include comparative historical institutional analysis, urban land development, and infrastructure management. He is an associate researcher for FFJ’s Theme 4: “Rethinking Global Cities,” contributing to conferences like the 2018 “Tokaido Megalopolis” event examining megaregion challenges.
