Prof. Dr. André Marchand is a Professor of Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and Director of the Institute for Service and Relationship Management at the University of Leipzig since October 2020. He previously held professorships at the University of Cologne and the University of Münster. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cologne Business School and has been a Visiting Professor at several Australian and UK institutions, including the University of Technology Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and Aston Business School.
His research focuses on Strategic Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Digital Transformation & Innovation, and New Media & Entertainment Science, including applications in video games, social media, and digital entertainment. He has published extensively in top journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and International Journal of Research in Marketing.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in digital marketing, consumer decision-making in digital environments, and the economic impact of media and entertainment. Themes include recommendation systems, social media performance, advertising in entertainment, and customer empowerment in digital platforms.
He has received recognition in the Handelsblatt ranking as being among the top 10% of research-intensive business economists in German-speaking countries. He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Interactive Marketing, and Journal of Media Economics.
Professor Marchand has secured research funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG), including an ongoing project on the success formula of hedonic media. He actively advises doctoral students and collaborates with industry through research-practice partnerships and startup initiatives. He has supervised researchers such as Tobias Mayerhofer and Pauline Röhr and advised doctoral candidates including Dr. Nicolas Weber and Dr. Andrea Holler.
He leads the Chair of Business Administration, especially Marketing, at the University of Leipzig, where his team includes scientific staff, research assistants, and external doctoral students. The research group is actively involved in empirical studies on customer engagement, digital marketing, and media economics.
