Professor André Jean-Marie was a Full Professor of Chemistry at the University of Namur (Belgium) from 1974 until his passing. He also served as Director of the Laboratory of Applied Theoretical Chemistry and held visiting roles at institutions like the University of Arizona and Nanjing University. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. (1965) and Ph.D. (1968) in Chemistry from the Université Catholique de Louvain, followed by postdoctoral research at IBM and the National Fund for Scientific Research.
His research focused on theoretical design of conducting polymers, spectroscopic analysis, and quantum molecular theory. He authored 7 books, published ~330 papers, and delivered ~210 invited lectures. Notable awards include the Francqui Prize (1991), numerous academic medals, and honors like Officer of the Order of Leopold (1990). He was a Full Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium and held leadership roles, including President of the Royal Academy of Belgium (2008–2009) and President of Collège Belgique (2009–2011).
Labs/Teams: Directed the Laboratory of Applied Theoretical Chemistry. His work emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration, blending theoretical chemistry with materials science. Administrative contributions included roles on university research boards and international science foundations.
