André Beauchemin is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Ottawa and currently serves as the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. He holds a B.Sc. from Université Laval (1996) and a Ph.D. from Université de Montréal (2001), followed by postdoctoral research at Harvard University. His research focuses on the development of new synthetic methodologies, particularly in the areas of amination reactions, catalysis, and the synthesis of nitrogen-containing molecules with applications in medicinal chemistry.
Key roles include leadership in academic administration, including former Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Science. His awards include the Governor General’s Gold Medal (2002), Boehringer Ingelheim Research Excellence Award (2015), and multiple grants from NSERC and industry partnerships.
Research interests emphasize efficient carbon-nitrogen bond formation, with applications in drug discovery. His lab has produced over 75 publications, including work on hydroamination reactions, masked isocyanate reagents, and heterocyclic chemistry. Collaborations span medicinal chemistry and virology, targeting antiviral agents and cancer therapies.
He has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, many of whom have pursued academic and industrial careers. His lab’s current projects include developing amide linchpin reagents and exploring redox-enabled hydroamination strategies.
