Andrzej Piotr Stefańczyk is a Professor at the Department of the History of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy within the Faculty of Philosophy at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). He holds a habilitation and is a recognized scholar in ancient and medieval philosophy. His research focuses on determinism, free will, and the thought of figures like Augustine, Anselm of Canterbury, and Thomas Aquinas. He has led a significant grant on determinism from St. Augustine to Alvin Plantinga (2015–2018).
Education:
- 1986–1992: Classical Philology (MA), KUL
- 1988–1993: Theoretical Philosophy (MA), KUL
- Doctoral Dissertation: Between Necessity and Freedom (supervised by Prof. A. Kijewska)
Research Interests:
- Historical and logical analysis of determinism vs. free will in ancient/medieval thought
- Medieval modal logic and language theory
- Augustine’s and Anselm’s theological philosophy
Grants & Projects:
- Main researcher in National Science Centre grant (2015–2018) exploring determinism from Augustine to Plantinga
Labs/Teams: Engaged with the Faculty’s research initiatives, including the John Paul II Institute and the Centre for Medieval Cultural History.
