Professor Andrew van der Vlies holds a Professorship in English and Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide's School of Humanities, part of the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. He joined in 2021 after 16 years in the UK at the University of Sheffield and Queen Mary University of London. His research focuses on modern and contemporary literatures (with a focus on South Africa, Africa, and Australia), modernisms, affect studies, queer theory, and the history of the book. He also holds an honorary position at the University of the Western Cape.
